Brenda Jean Thornton, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, at 3:08a.m. She was 71 years old.

Brenda was born on November 15, 1953, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to her parents, Lily Thornton and George Thornton, Sr. She grew up surrounded by family and love, alongside her sister, Delois Page, and her brothers, George and Tommie Thornton.

A proud graduate of East High School’s Class of 1973, Brenda went on to build a dedicated career with Woodley Building Maintenance of Kansas City, Missouri. She worked hard and was admired for her commitment and kindness in the workplace.

Brenda’s greatest joy was her family. She was the loving mother of five children, Kim Thornton, Maurice Thornton, Latonya Kindred (Nathan), Stacy Hawkins (Christopher), and Laketta Thornton. She was also the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandmother of one precious great- grandson. Brenda’s love also extended to her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who will miss her dearly.

Brenda was preceded in death by her brothers Tommie and George Thornton.

Known for her unique, caring, and giving spirit, Brenda touched the lives of everyone she met. She had a way of making those around her feel seen, loved, and supported. Her family and friends will always remember her warmth, generosity, and the deep love she carried for them all.

Brenda’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
