Charley a.k.a Charley Jr. and “Sno” went on to be a celebrated football player in his position as quarterback during his time at Pemberton High School. This lead to him being invited to tryout for the National Football League Charley became a member of the United States Air Force. His service began just days before his 19th birthday. His tour of duty took him to Mississippi for training for radio and radar equipment repair. He then was stationed at the March Air Force Base in Southern California. and Greenland, the most northern part of the world He was honorably discharged in May of 1957. Charley began his studies at Wiley College, a Historically Black College in Marshall TX (also home to The Great Debaters), with aspirations of becoming a physical education coach. After years of schooling and attempting to make a life in Texas he ventured to Kansas City, Missouri in May of 1963. He returned to Texas and asked Janice Marie Glaspie for her hand in marriage and to follow him to Missouri. To this union two children were born.

Charley excelled in real estate. He also worked as an appraiser with the City of K.C.
