Thomas's childhood in Kentucky was filled with fond memories of hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. Though small in stature as a boy, he possessed great courage and strength. His passion was to go fishing and was a big fan of sports. His charismatic nature helped him make friends easily. Thomas attended Lincoln County High in Stanford, KY, graduating in 1980. On January 4, 1982, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served honorably for 14 years, earning numerous decorations, medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons for his years of service.

Thomas then dedicated over 25 years to the United States Postal Service, maintaining a strong work ethic and receiving numerous certificates and awards of appreciation. Alongside his wife, he was a foster parent for over 15 years, providing love, stability, advocacy, and sanctuary to many children.

Thomas is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
