Norma Jean Wrench Simpson, affectionately known as “Momma,” peacefully passed away on August 4, 2026, at the age of 91, in her Kansas City, Missouri home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 24, 1935, in Fort Scott, Kansas, to John Wrench and Gladys Wrench, Norma was raised in Fort Scott and graduated from Fort Scott Senior High School. With a heart for caring for others, she attended Mercy School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1957.

She continued her education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Adult Education.

Norma worked at several hospitals before beginning a dedicated 28-year career with the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring in 1998. Nursing was more than a profession to her; it reflected her lifelong spirit of compassion and service.

Above all, Norma was a devoted family woman. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, and her nurturing spirit reached far beyond her immediate family. She became a mother figure to many, lovingly earning the name “Momma.” Her wisdom, strength, kindness, and unconditional love will remain a treasured part of her legacy.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, John Wrench and Gladys Rogers; sister, Anita Douglas; brother, William Wrench; and daughter, Crystal Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, James Brown Williams Jr., Zethia Sharpe, Damon Williams Sr. (Toni), and adopted son Marcus Simpson Sr.; Sister, Marva Jones; sister in law, Clifford Wrench, stepdaughters, Elizabeth Nixon, Maria Simpson, Annette Aurthorlee, Gallandra Simpson, Paulette Gamble, and Maebelle Butler; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and dear friends.

Momma’s beautiful life was one of love, family, service, and devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave and the lives she touched will ensure that her legacy continues for generations to come.
