IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Sharon Yvonne

Thompson

February 21, 1960 – May 18, 2026

Obituary

On May 18, 2026, surrounded by love and peace, Sharon Y. Thompson entered eternal rest at KC Hospice House after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 21, 1960, in Kansas City, Sharon was a woman of strength, grace, resilience, and unconditional love.

For over 17 years, Sharon fought a tremendous fight against cancer. She overcame breast cancer and continued to face every obstacle with determination, faith, and courage. Though her battle was difficult, she never allowed it to define her spirit. Her strength inspired everyone who knew and loved her.

Sharon attended Southwest High School and graduated in 1978. Shortly after graduation, she proudly joined the United States Army in 1978, where she served her country with honor and dedication. Sharon was also part of the hardworking construction crew that helped build South 71 Highway, contributing to a project that would serve her community for generations. Her caring spirit naturally led her into the nursing field, where she worked at Menorah Medical Center compassionately caring for others. Later in life, Sharon worked as a dispatcher for ADT Security Services, where she continued dedicating herself to helping and protecting others through her work.

Above all else, Sharon cherished her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and dear friend whose heart had room for everyone. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family, creating memories filled with laughter, warmth, and love that will forever be treasured.

Sharon also found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved shopping, taking long drives, and enjoying peaceful moments at the Carter family farm. Whether sitting outside enjoying the land, laughing with family, or simply riding around listening to music, those moments brought her happiness and comfort.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter L. Thompson and Georgia M. Thompson; her sister, Toni L. Anderson; and her dear friend, Florence D. Love.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving daughter, Raven Carter (Montel); her three sons, Bryant William, Alan Kneeland (Lauren), and Alex Kneeland; her sister, Robin Thomas; her brother, Eric Thompson; her best friend, Erricka Phillips along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends and loved ones who became family through love rather than blood. Sharon’s love, wisdom, strength, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on in all who knew her. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing Sharon is no longer suffering and is now resting peacefully. Her legacy of love, perseverance, and family will never be forgotten.

 “See you later, Mama.”
