Welton Anthony Jones, was born in his grandmother’s home to Welton Turner and Queenie Jones on June 29, 1964, in Painter, Virginia. Welton passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy built on strength, faith and boundless positivity.

Welton was the cherished son of the late Welton Turner and Queenie Jones. Welton was the oldest son of Queenie and a loving brother to his three siblings. He was deeply rooted in family and his community.

Welton was educated in the Accomack County School system. He learned the value of hard work from his mom and grandmother, also working alongside his Uncle Joe affectionately known as Captain Joe and his cousins, where he experiences his strong work ethic that he maintained throughout his life.

Welton’s heart remained rooted in Virginia with his mom and grandmother, until he moved to Johnson County, KS when he was about twenty- one. During his time in Kansas, his uncle Joseph Jones trained him in boxing, helping him become a skilled featherweight fighter.

Welton later found the love of his life Kathy Jones, leading them to fifteen years together and ten years of marriage. He also took great joy in his travels and cherished his memorable trips with his wife Kathy; he also kept the traditions of returning home on Mother’s Day to visit his mom before her passing. He also enjoyed bringing his children and grandchildren together under one roof to share his vision of a magical Christmas.

Welton, was an avid Denver Broncos fan at heart, where he had the opportunity to explore the vibrant city of his football team. He loved hosting Sunday watch parties with his family and friends, having spirited debates, especially when they played the Kansas City Chiefs!

Welton loved and enjoyed watching movies with his wife, family and friends. He enjoyed long walks in the neighborhood while walking his dog, Joy.

Beyond his passions, Welton had a deep relationship with God. After losing his way in his youth, he returned to his faith with a renewed heart. His slogan became “I will not look down, and I will not look back” embodying the positive attitude that defined his life.

He was preceded into death by his parents Welton Turner and Queenie Jones, his grandmother Florine Watson, grandfather Cecil Jones, Uncle William Jones, and his mother in-law Carol Bly

He is survived by his wife: Kathy Jones. Children: Natisha Briscoe; Triffanie Simms; Trezney Jones (Marcus); LaRaya Sirls (Keith). Grandchildren: Christopher Matthews Jr.; C’niya Matthews; C’mani Matthews; C’iara Matthews; Tay’vian Simms; Zy’aire Stewart; Zy’ian Stewart; Lamais Jones, Lasai Jones; Michael Wilson; Gabrielle Hutcherson; Kalaila Hutcherson and Malcolm Hutcherson. Siblings: Princella (Curtis) Ballard, Hampton, VA; Larry (Trisha) Jones, Fayetteville, NC; Romeo Jones, Richmond, VA; Albert Bly (Brother-in-law) Kansas City, MO; Stephanie Bly (Sister-in-law) Kansas City, MO.
