Janette Louise Hughes was born in Sasakwa, Oklahoma on April 27, 1950, to Bennie Overstreet and Hester Cudjo who both preceded her in death.
Janette was raised in Kansas City, Missouri and educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District where she graduated from Lincoln Preparatory Academy.
Janette was a long-time employee of Children’s Mercy Hospital as a supervisor for 40 years until she retired in 2016.
Janette enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to bake cakes and listened to church services every Sunday. She was known for her voice and was a member of the “Harmonizers” at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church with a soft tone, but it was so very powerful. She was also a big fan of Price is Right where she would always talk to the TV when it came on. She loved any movie with Madea including the plays. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids, making crochet blankets for them. She loved talking on the phone with her brothers and co-worker LaStarr, talking for hours. All in all, she was an amazing, fun, and sweet person to be around.
Janette Hughes passed away at Centerpoint Hospital on February 9, 2022.
Janette is preceded in death by her only son Ernest Galbearth, great-grandson Donmetri Jones, Jr., uncle Kelly Cudjo, and sister Glenda Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Stephanie Hilliard of KCMO, Lisa Galbearth of KCMO, and Carolyn Galbearth of Independence, MO; brothers, Kevin Cudjo, Roy Barkus, Ronnie Sutton, Alfonso Salton, and Zenephor E. Overstreet; five other brothers, ten sisters, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
